TOP MEN’S FASHION MISTAKES TO AVOID
The guy who struts around in a cut-off metallic T-shirt, crumpled crop pants, a tweed jacket with short sleeves and a fedora will definitely turn heads...but is it because we’re admiring his fashion sense? Er.... that would be a loud ‘no’!. Everyone has the right to express their individuality and flair – particularly when it comes to their wardrobe – but there are some rules...even for the most dedicated followers of fashion.
To avoid being the laughing stock of the party, here are some men’s fashion mistakes to avoid.
1. Yes, size counts!. Wearing clothes that are too loose or baggy is one of the most common fashion mistakes that men make. You don’t have to go for the formal wear tailored look every time, but you do have to look as though your clothes actually fit you.
2. The snug-fit. If your clothes fit you like a second skin....well, they’re probably too small!. Even the slightest hint of a muffin-top is an instant turn-off.
3. Short sleeved shirts and ties DON’T match. This is only OK if you work in McDonalds, but if you’re after a stylish formalwear look, it’s got to be a long-sleeved shirt with a tie.
4. Open shoes and socks. This isn’t a look that even a European tourist can get away with.
5. Don’t join the chain gang. If you’re clinking and jangling along with multiple chains, rings and bracelets...then maybe you belong in the clink.
6. Don’t wear loud logos or novelty clothing in public. Your Disney T-shirt and company peak cap don’t belong in a social or business setting.
7. Wear the pants but make sure they’re not too short!. When you are standing up, the fabric should just fold slightly when it hits the top of the shoe... and if you show some skin above your socks when you’re sitting with your legs crossed...you need to invest in some longer pants.
8. Always leave the bottom button open on men’s suits, sports jackets, waistcoats and cardigans.
9. Unironed or rumpled clothing belongs in ...the laundry. Haute couture models strutting along the catwalks of Paris may get away with a wrinkled and edgy outfit, but the unlaundered look for ordinary men’s wear is a big turn-off.
It is important to dress appropriately for the right occasion, say a Dunsborough mens wear specialist, Stepping Up Menswear. Instead of risking looking like a circus clown who had fun with the dress-up box..it’s best to stick to the basic rules when it comes to men’s clothing...fashion can be sublime, but don’t risk being ridiculous.
