Sharp UX CD 600 - A Nice Office Companion
The Sharp UX-CD 600 Communications Center uses Sharp UX CD600 toner cartridge and is (1) a fax machine, (2) a text-only copy machine, (3) an expandable two-line multi-user phone console and (4) an answering machine; all rolled up into one compact unit. This system was introduced to the market in 2003 as a small office - home office (SOHO) space saving solution.
It is no longer being manufacture, but several thousand units are still in operation and there are those (primarily home office operators) who love the Sharp UX-CD 600 Communications Center with Sharp UX-CD 600 Toner.
The fax has 448 KB of memory, which is sufficient to hold as many as 24 legal size pages of text. A design fault to be aware of is that faxes come in paper side down. Many users have complained that you can't tell if a fax has come in simply by give the machine a glance in passing. But other than that, the center is well thought of by most users.
The input paper tray has a 50 sheet maximum, which some users find is annoyingly little, but it surprisingly has an automatic feed tray that can handle up to 10 pages and letter as well as legal size (81/2' X 13') paper. The copier function can be set to run up to 99 copies, which is kind of weird given that the paper tray can only handle half that much. Copy quality isn't bad, at 392 lines per inch resolution.
The Sharp UX-CD 600 Communications Center with Sharp UX CD600 printer cartridge comes with two phones and can expand to handle up to eight. The primary line is the corded handset on the communications center console. A cordless handset with its own remote charger is included. The charger is separate from the console, so the second line can service a separate workstation. The product documentation maintains the center can service as many as eight additional lines.
The cordless phone and charger that comes with the Center is of exceptional quality, delivering business class vocals at ranges as long as 90 to 100 feet, depending on the type of intervening walls. It has a handy low battery light right on the handset. It delivers 8 hours of in service time without a recharge and holds a charge for 2 full days when someone gets forgetful about putting it on the charger.
The Sharp UX-CD 600 Communications Center is compatible with Caller ID and Call Waiting services if you subscribe to them from your service provider. There is also a duplex speaker in the base, allowing you to communicate hands free when using the base station handset. Conference calling is not something that this console enables and, as far as I can determine, it can't handle 3 Way Calling either. This is a major disappointment for most prospective buyers.
