We used one of the Tomy monitors (possibly the Walkabout, I know both the base unit and the handset could be used with batteries) for our daughter and while I never actually had to use the feature, I know it's got two different bands you can set it to, so that you can have at least two within a house or area and they shouldn't interfere with each other.
I haven't used it for a long time, but I seem to remember that if you take the back off it, you can change the frequency it broadcasts on as well, but I couldn't say for sure. It's definitely go the two bands though.
